The Rio Rico Hawks took a 1-0 lead after the first inning of Friday’s high school baseball game at Nogales. But it was all NHS after that.

The Apaches scored 27 times in their next three turns at bat to win the game in five innings.

In all, Nogales banged out 21 hits and put 13 more runners on base via walk or hit batter. Of the 17 different NHS players who batted in the game, 16 recorded a hit. Robert Gallego led the way with four hits, three runs and three RBIs.

Saul Soto earned the win with four innings of work on the mound. He struck out eight, walked three and allowed one hit. Santi Dibene pitched the fifth and final inning.

For Rio Rico, Victor Coronado had a run-scoring double for the Hawks’ first-inning run. Luis Peralta hit an RBI triple in the top of the fifth to make the final score 27-2.

Nogales, now 13-0 in the regular season, is set to play in a tournament in Las Vegas, followed by a home game at noon Friday, April 15, against Casa Grande. The Hawks, now 5-9, play on Wednesday and Thursday, April 13 and 14, when they host Douglas and Amphitheater, respectively, starting at 4 p.m.
